Dedication – Don’t look at The Islands – bronze sculpture

Designers and sculptors of the Lock Hospital Tragedy Memorial Project, Charlie and Joan Smith of Smith Sculptors attended The dedication of their bronze sculpture ‘Don’t look at The Islands ‘.

After many months of effort – a truly intense emotional journey, we were proud to see our sculpture dedication by Hon. Ben Wyatt MLA and Hon Alannah MacTiernan MLC  on the 17th of April 2019 to astonished acclaim. We knew we had succeed in our efforts to capture and express through our artwork the suffering and pain inflicted upon aboriginal people through The Lock Hospital medical incarceration scheme of the early 1900’s when the Carnarvon Shire President Karl Bradenberg, became too emotional to continue his address when he tried to describe the visual impact on him of our sculpture.

No artist could ask for more.
